Senior Compliance Engineer

Our client, a renewable energy firm with ambitious growth plans and strong financial backing, is seeking a Senior Compliance Engineer to help oversee their electric generation compliance programs. The Senior Compliance Engineer will be the subject matter expert with regulatory responsibility for reviewing, coordinating, and submitting regulatory and technical information to ensure compliance for the fleet of renewable generating facilities in North America.

Duties:
 
  • Work with and support the Operations Engineering department to ensure regulatory compliance requirements are understood and satisfied and coordinate with Construction and external firms for post construction testing.
  • Possess a detail knowledge of Bulk Electric System regulatory requirements, standards and regulations.
  • Review compliance related deliverables from construction to operations to ensure compliance prior to facility commissioning.
  • Assist Requirement Owners and Subject Matter Experts with the creation and maintenance of internal policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines to promote operational efficiency and ensure compliance with NERC and regional O&P reliability standards.
  • Comply with assigned regulatory reliability standards and compliance requirements, including market rules and NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Ensure timely completion of activities assigned to Operations Engineering department associated with NERC Reliability Standards and market rules (i.e. ERCOT, PJM, etc.). Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for applicable Reliability Standards.
  • Respond to internal and external data requests, RFIs, audits, and NERC Alerts.
  • Provide feedback as requested for event analysis, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and extent of condition reviews.
  • Conduct independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of regulatory/technical projects and programs.
  • Develop new concepts and techniques to reduce regulatory burden, track regulatory non-compliances corrective actions, and make recommendations to address changes of codes or regulations.
  • Ensure engineering work performed at renewable generating facilities conforms to all applicable regulatory and manufacturer requirements.
  • Review scopes of work and work product from 3rd party providers and Operations Engineering related to modeling, engineering studies, testing plans, system changes, upgrades and maintenance.
  • Ensure company and compliance-related documentation and records are organized and retained, as required.
  • Analyze electrical data to understand trends and system events for the purposes of reporting and process improvement.
 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with NERC and FERC regulations in the electrical industry
  • Experience working with renewable generating systems is desirable.
  • Ability to travel ~20% of the time to domestic and international generation sites.
